| n o n a ona is the name of my second album. The song "Blue Timelessness" from this album became so popular that my band and I called the album "Blue Timelessness". The year was 1993. In March I gave birth to my son and in the summer I was already on a tour in Ohrid, Macedonia with the Army Theatre where I've been working since 1992. I gave birth to my child alone, and if somebody says it is easy - do not believe him. It was hard and lonely and I desperately wanted somebody in my heart. I wanted my eyes to sink in somebody else's and stay there. In this mood staring at the Ohrid Lake I wrote the lyrics and the music for "Blue Timelessness". Maybe then my dream was beginning to come true because shortly after I recorded the song I met that someone. The fate of the song is changing even today. At first when I gave it to the radio stations they did not want to play it because it had the word "Blue" in it and the ruling party then was "red". Then when the "blue" party came to power they loved the song until the "timelessness" of this party came and the song was "uncomfortable" again. And actually nowhere in the music or the lyrics is there any politics. What I dislike the most about politics is that it steals all sorts of things and even colours. During the recording of this album my band was formed - "Nona Band". It consists of marvellous musicians like Dani Milev - guitar, Mihail Mishkov - pedalsteel guitar, Mihail Iosifov - trumpet and contrabass, Kalin Velev - drums, Vlado Karparov - sax, Atanas Dimitrov - drums, Vulchan Vulchanov - oboe, and last but not least Ivan Lechev - guitar and violin. We made all the arrangements in the album together. We got together. I brought my guitar and sang the songs to the boys. Everyone started suggesting things and when we reached the point where everybody liked the song we recorded it. We have three very interesting videos from this album - "Blue Timelessness", "The Eternal Groom" and "Humbleness". "Bel Epoc" made the first two videos, and Georgi Markov did the "Humbleness" one. We had a very interesting experience when shooting the "Blue Timelessness" video. The directors from Bel Epoc decided that we had to shoot by the sea near Rezovo, that I had to be in crinoline and wear a hat with a violet... And so we went in search of romantics. But it was 1996 - a rather turbulent year. There was unrest, strikes and barricades on the roads. It was terribly hard to get to the sea. There was just no way to pass through. Thank god there were people who helped us. After wandering the roads for a whole day, after dark we saw deers crossing our road. There were so many stars in the sky, all shining bright. It was like we were under a star-dome. "The Eternal Groom" video was no easier. We were shooting in the Botanical Garden in Sofia and the directors had decided to have something like a love scene between a white dove and me. It was pretty hard to get along with the bird but it became interesting when the bird escaped. One of the assistants had to hunt him on the roofs and fortunately no one was injured. And the video turned out great. |
